- Backing up data in Windows requires something to back the data up to like an external hard drive or blank DVD+RW. Microsoft's built-in software allows users to back up specified files or create full backups in the form of a system (disk) image.
- Restoring with the Backup and Restore Center is as easy as inserting the media your back up is stored on, opening Windows Backup and Restore Center, and choosing "Restore My Files". Depending on the type of back up, you may choose to restore specific files within a backup.
- Many free third party solutions perform the same tasks as Windows' Backup and Restore Center. You may choose third party software if you're not satisfied with Microsoft's included software or if you're using an older version of Windows without the Backup and Restore Center.
