Waffles are clearly a breakfast favorite of many, and now thanks to a brand new restaurant in Sacramento, they’ve become gourmet. The Waffle Experience is an upscale breakfast and lunch spot in Natomas, serving up this popular breakfast dish in innovative new ways.

About The Waffle Experience

The Waffle Experience was founded in 2014 by two Marine Corp buddies whose paths happened to cross once again.

After their time together serving in Desert Storm, they reconnected to create a brand new dining experience with waffles as the center.

Michael Donoho serves as the executive chef, having held a passion for cooking since age 9. He grew up in Alaska in his parents’ home garden and learned how to fish and hunt for local, whole foods. His mother was also an accomplished cook, which inspired him to learn more.  Chef Michael has interned in France and has worked for some of the best hotels and restaurants in the world. He is a huge supporter of Farm to Fork, using the most local, organic, sustainable ingredients available.

Jeffery Belaski is the general manager of The Waffle Experience, and is known for his outrageous, outgoing personality both in and out of the kitchen.  Jeffery has a strong foundation in business and finance, having previously run a mortgage business from the ground up.

Dominic Dolar is the third member of the team, serving as a craft roaster. Liberty Coffee Roasting Company – Dolar’s business – will be providing the brews presented to guests at The Waffle Experience.

Breakfast at the Waffle Experience

Without any nighttime hours, it’s essential the Waffle Experience makes a great first impression with the breakfast crowd, and it’s clear they’ve pulled out all the stops. Their mission is to create delicious food that’s also relatively good for you. Every ingredient they use is organic, sustainable and local whenever possible.

Some creations you’ll find:

Jimmy’s a Greek – sundried tomatoes, olives, arugula, red onion jam, egg, feta, basil and domade on an herb waffle.

Farmer in the Dell – country fried steak with buttermilk gravy, cheddar cheese, tomato, egg and a cracked pepper waffle.

Praise the Lard – hard cider-braised pork belly, tomato, cilantro, burrata cheese, egg and a lardon studded waffle.

Billy the Goat – a brunch choice featuring goat cheese, fig, prosciutto, walnuts, pear and a rosemary waffle.

Mrs. B’s Korean Chicken – another morning or afternoon favorite, this waffle features Korean style fried chicken, cabbage slaw, crushed peanuts and jalapeño cornbread waffles.

Lunch at the Waffle Experience

Waffles for lunch? Why not? This isn’t Denny’s fare – instead enjoy waffles incorporated into hearty, delicious lunch time entrees.

Sacramento King – smoked salmon, grilled onion, hard boiled egg, cucumber and more veggies topped with cream cheese in a  dill cracked pepper waffle duo.

Californication – pepper crusted turkey, avocado, brie cheese, basil mayo, zucchini and sprouts on a whole wheat sunflower seed waffle pair.

The Full Monte – the restaurant’s version of a Monte Cristo Sandwich – ham, turkey, swis chard, gouda cheese, dried cherry waffles and sour cherry compote.

Serving the Community

Just as the two founders served our country in Desert Storm, they are now passionate about serving our local community. The offer discounts to active duty, veterans and first responders. They also put on Dine to Donate events for schools and churches. Other efforts include:

  • Employing special needs team members
  • Utilizing local farmers for ingredients
  • Free trade coffee from sustainable farms
  • Variety of bottled beverages with no artificial ingredients
  • Supporting local breweries and wineries
  • Participation in the Sacramento Cooking Oil Recycling Campaign

If you’d like to check out the Waffle Experience, you’ll find them at 4391 Gateway Park Blvd in Natomas. They are open 7am-2pm, Monday through Friday. Currently, the restaurant is closed on weekends.
