- 1). Locate the small, hinged flaps on either end of the face of the stereo. Pry them open with by hand or use a small, flat head screwdriver. Remove the screws located behind the flaps with an Allen wrench. Set the screws aside.
- 2). Remove the knob that controls the volume on the stereo if it is an Alpine model. Turn the knob behind the volume control 90 degrees with an Allen wrench. At this point, the front display of the stereo should pop out. Set the display aside. Remove the two Allen screws located behind the display with an Allen wrench.
- 3). Slide the radio straight out of the console so that you can see the top of the radio. Locate the serial number, which will be visible on the top of the stereo. Write the number down. Slide the stereo back into the console and reinstall the screws.
- 4). Take the code you wrote down to your local BMW dealer. They will be able to look the code up on their computer. The dealer may or may not charge you to retrieve the code. Enter the code in the stereo, using the buttons on the face.
