    Eucalyptus Vapor Treatment

    • While eucalyptus oil with its active ingredient, cineole, can be ingested for its antibiotic effects, eucalyptus oil can also be inhaled as a vapor to immediately reduce sinus pressure caused by excessive mucus. This oil contains a strong smell that when inhaled causes the nasal mucous membranes to respond in such a manner that excess mucous and phlegm are able to be evacuated. This reaction causes a reduction in sinus pressure and reduces the severity of sinus headaches.

Bring two quarts of water to a rolling boil. Allow the water to boil for three minutes before placing in a heat-safe bowl. Place 10 drops of eucalyptus oil directly into the water. Position your face 10 inches above the steaming water and drape a towel over your head to confine the steam. Breathe normally for 10 to 15 minutes before removing the towel and emptying the water. Repeat twice per day during a sinus infection to reduce mucous build-up and to lessen pressure.

    Apple Cider Vinegar Treatment

    • Apple cider vinegar contains a high pH level, which when taken orally allows the body to rid excess mucous and phlegm that causes sinus pressure. The properties of apple cider vinegar include vitamins B2/B6, E and C as well as other trace elements that boost blood circulation and balance the pH level within the body. Unfiltered apple cider vinegar contains a high level of probiotics, which are bacterial microorganisms that boost well-being and health in the body.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, probiotics treat such conditions as diarrhea and urinary tract infections, as well as balancing the level of healthy bacteria in the body. When used as a treatment for sinus infections, the probiotics and pH balance within apple cider vinegar thins mucous within the sinus cavities and reduces the sensations of pressure or discomfort.

Mix two tablespoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar with eight ounces of cold water. Due to the strong vinegar taste, sweeten by adding one tablespoon of honey or agave nectar. Stir the ingredients for one minute to ensure proper mixing. Slowly consume the mixture and repeat three times per day.
