We're back with our series, Inside Atlanta—each week, we sit down with influential locals to talk about what Atlanta means to them. Today we’re chatting with Kevin Gillespie, chef-owner of Gunshow in East Atlanta. You might recognize Gillespie from season six of Top Chef, where he was voted “fan favorite.” Dining at Gunshow is a one-of-a-kind experience, where the chefs crafting the dishes come to your table, offer you a taste of their delicious creations and tell you the story behind the dish.
Gillespie and his wife opened this unique dining concept with no outside investors and have transformed it into an award-winning restaurant. In 2014, GQlisted Gunshow as one of the 25 Best New Restaurants in America. Today we get a tour of The Big Peach lead by Gillespie himself.
I live in… Serenbe. I like that it’s in the woods; I love Atlanta and think it’s a great city with unique neighborhoods.
I Wish People Knew… more about Atlanta’s high quality of food and variations of cuisine.
You Can Find Me… at the Atlanta Airport.
It’s Dinner Time, I’m headed to… Gu’s Dumplings in Krog Street Market, BoccaLupo in Inman Park or Pho Dai Loi on Buford Highway. I eat there more than any other restaurant.
Clock strikes 5 o’clock, I’m drinking… the Toasted Old Fashioned at Gunshow. I also like Campari on the rocks. Lastly, an ice-cold Bud heavy from a cheap gas station where it’s always the freshest.
If I Had to Stay in a Hotel, I’d check into… the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta. It’s my style of place – not snooty or obtrusive, but the service is impeccable.
Atlanta’s Best Kept Secret Is… Vatica in Marietta. It’s true Indian cooking. You don’t order; you just get what they feed you for $9 and never leave hungry.
When I’m Playing Tourist, I go to… the High Museum of Art. The permanent collection is excellent, and they [always] have great exhibits. The Porsche Headquarters museum is great, and you can go on the track with a race car driver – so cool.
I Get My Sweat On… at Snap Fitness near Gunshow. I also like to hike the Serenbe trails.
I Love Spending My Money At... Sid Mashburn. Their service is fun and nice, and they have clothes that fit my broad shoulders. I no longer have to wear a “husky.
