- 1). Engage your emergency brake, when your vehicle is fully stopped. Take your car to the mechanic, if the brake does not engage at less than half of the brake's downward travel time.
- 2). Place the vehicle in forward gear, with the brake engaged. Try to drive forward. Accelerate your motor to approximately 1200 RPMs.Take your car to the mechanic, if your car moves forward with the brake engaged.
- 3). Take your car to your dealership or auto-shop for an inspection, if you are not convinced you have been able to test your emergency brake, sufficiently.
