Shop a Farmer"s Market

For vegetables and fruits, I go to a Farmer's Market that sells to vendors. The ones where people that have vegetable stands go to. The produce is a lot cheaper and fresher. You have to buy by the case, but you can always go in with other friends and split it. I buy onions, bell peppers, etc. by the case bring them home, cut up for cooking, and freeze. Also for people who can't have a garden and would like to can fresh vegetables, it is a great place to get them.

With three teenagers to feed and nine grandkids always showing up, it saves on the grocery bill. - Submitted by Charlotte

If you have a Farmer's Market nearby, buy your fruits and vegetables there. You save a lot and it's fun! The Market in St. Louis even has a couple of meat markets (although I haven't tried them yet), a bakery and a spice store. I bought spices there last week and saved a ton over what I would spend in the grocery store. Just be careful not to buy more than your family will eat in a week or so. - Submitted by Karen
