Hi I'm Karyn Capozzo, registered and licensed dietitian with Apple a Day Lifestyle Counseling. Today I'm going to show you how to make a healthy homemade protein shake. Now the key to a homemade protein shake is having items that we have at home so get creative with your protein shakes. It can be anything that you find in your cabinet really and I'll give you some ideas for substitutions as we go through those items that we found in our cabinet today. Let's get started. So here's what we found in our cabinet today for our ingredients, we found some low fat Greek yogurt. We found some peanut butter, a little bit of honey and some bananas. So now what we need to do is blend all of these together. So let's get started. The key to any great protein shake is great ingredients. We're going to use bananas in ours because we had those handy in our kitchen today but you can choose any fruit that you like whether it's oranges, apples, peaches, pears, whatever it is that you like, throw them in your protein shake. It wouldn't be a protein shake if we didn't have some kind of protein. So we've got two sources of protein here, one of them being our Greek yogurt which is a great source of protein but also an outstanding source of carbohydrate to give us lots of energy for the day. So, we also need in our protein shake, protein, here's our peanut butter, get out of there. If you don't have peanut butter, you can always use almond butter or any nuts that you have in your house or if you so choose, any kind of protein powder whether it's plant based or a whey based is fine. And to add a little bit of sweetness to ours today, we're going to add a little bit of honey. If you don't have honey, you can use sugar or any sugar substitute or agave will work just great in sweetening up your protein shake. So now we're ready to blend it all together. Alright, our healthy homemade protein shake. That looks delicious. And there you have it, a healthy homemade protein shake.
