Things You'll Need
Place a plastic drop cloth on the ground in an open garage or ventilated porch. Lay a heavy duty fabric drop cloth over the plastic to prevent drips from pooling. Place the redwood table on the drop cloths.
Wipe the redwood with tack cloths.
Coat the table with oil based stain, using a natural bristled brush, specifically made for use with stains that have an oil base. Start with the table top, brushing along with the wood grain. Wipe wet stain from the table top using rags.
Apply stain to a table leg, brushing vertically. Use rags to wipe wet stain from the leg. Continue until each leg is stained. Allow four hours of dry time.
Clean your brush using mineral spirits.
Coat the stained redwood with varnish, using the clean brush. Start with the table top, brushing along with the wood grain, then apply varnish to each table leg, brushing vertically. Allow four hours of dry time.
