      A degree in computer science can lead to a number of different rewarding careers in a computer-related field. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the number of jobs for computer scientists will increase by 24 percent from 2008 to 2018. A computer science degree can also lead to a career as a computer network administrator, network architect or database administrator. Undergraduate majors offered by various schools include a variety of courses with different emphases based on the strengths of the institution's faculty members.

Stanford is a world renowned research institution that offers some of the top-rated degree programs in math, science and computer technology. Attending Stanford gives undergraduate students in computer science the opportunity to complete their foundational general education courses from some of the top professors in these fields. The computer science major requires students to complete six core courses in the field. Students choose the remainder of the courses as they create their own area of specialization. In addition to the computer science courses, students must complete math courses in the Mathematical Foundations of Computing and Introduction to Probability for Computer Scientists. The program requires other courses in physics and engineering.
