    • 1). Wash and dry your hair before treating it so the color is able to stick to the hair better. If you have very curly or kinky hair, straightening your hair will make it easier to color also. Use a flat iron to straighten your hair.

    • 2). Wrap a towel around your shoulders and use a hair clip to hold it closed. The towel will protect your clothes while you are coloring your hair.

    • 3). Fill a spray bottle with equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water and spray all over your hair with the solution. Put gloves on and use your fingers to make sure the solution is equally distributed over your hair.

    • 4). Leave the solution in your hair for 15 minutes and then rinse it out using moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Wear the gloves until you finish the hair-dying process.

    • 5). Let your hair dry naturally or style it how you want. If you plan to blow-dry or use a curling iron on your hair, do so before you apply the coloring (Step 6).

    • 6). Put the food coloring gel in a bowl. Dip your fingers into the bowl of gel and rub the gel between your fingers. Run your fingers through your hair to distribute the coloring all over your hair, adding more coloring when needed.

    • 7). Leave the food coloring in your hair for as long as possible --- if possible, for 24 hours --- and then rinse the coloring out with plain water. The longer you leave the coloring in your hair, the richer and more long-lasting the color will be.
