Although the Everglades, Florida Keys and attractions around Orlando may be the best known tourist destinations in Florida, the northwest part of the state also has some scenic areas that are ideal for camping. These include campgrounds along the Gulf of Mexico as well as in land along various rivers and lakes. - Less than a mile from Interstate 10, the Milton/Gulf Pines KOA is close to the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico as well as attractions in Pensacola such as the National Museum of Naval Aviation. The KOA gives campers the option of staying on RV sites, tent sites or in a variety of cabins. Its large RV sites are 100-foot-long pull-throughs and are full hook-ups with 50-amp service. The RV sites also come with cable TV for no charge. Wireless Internet is available at the sites, for a fee. Restrooms and showers are located on the property along with recreational facilities such as a picnic pavilion, swimming pool that is open throughout the year, miniature golf, a playground for the kids and a game room. Visitors can also rent bikes.

Featuring floating docks on the river, Ellie Ray's River Landing has 99 full hook-up RV sites that come with either 30- or 50-amp electric. The sites can handle big rigs, have patios and room for slide-outs. A clubhouse is on the property along with canoe rentals, a swimming area, a playground for kids, restrooms, showers, a laundry facility, horseshoe pits and a boardwalk. Campers can fish in the Santa Fe River and take advantage of the park's boat ramp and floating docks. Wireless Internet is available at the club house.

This is a large and popular campground that takes reservations a year in advance. Campers can stay at sites that handle all sizes of RVs as well as in cabins that sleep six. The amenities at the full hook-up sites include concrete pads, 20-, 30- or 50-amp electric service, cable TV and WiFi. Some of the sites are located along the beach. The park has three different bathhouses with restrooms and showers, and two pools, including one with a hot tub. A fitness room is situated in the park's activity center. A laundry facility is another feature on a property that is withing walking distance of the Silver Sands outlet mall.
