I know what people say is the best way to do blogs, which is my preferred medium.
I know what people say about writing articles for business purposes.
I know all of that stuff, and beyond following a few basic principles, I ignore it all.
Why? Because I write stuff I want people to read, not just keyword heavy stuff for the search engines to goo and gaa over.
I might not always get things across the best, and I am all too often too brief in what I am writing, this is a problem I've had since school.
I often got bad marks on essays, and book reports because I didn't write enough to please them.
I'll put it this way.
When I write I go to the point, I say what I have to say and that is that.
Not always the best policy, and it's something I've had to work on.
Many people that run blogs, and other content driven websites will say that posting more often using less words is the best policy.
Some say fewer posts with lots of content is better.
I say, write the way that works best for you.
In my case I write as much as it takes to get my point across and am happy with that.
If I write articles and posts that people like, they will send people the link for them, or put the link up on their sites.
They might enter what I wrote into Digg, or another social book marking site.
Search engines are a great source of traffic, but as long as you are writing good content, you will make it into them.
Writing for the search engines makes you look shallow, and does not give your site any perceived value, it takes it away.
Maybe not everyone can spot an article written for search engines, but most can tell something is just a bit too...
plastic about them.
Manufactured would be another word.
If you write that way you are really missing the point in my opinion.
That's one of the problems with the way most people tell you how to do your article and post writing for marketing purposes.
They tell you to write keyword rich articles while still being readable.
I say write what feels right.
In fact that is my motto for this article.
Write what feels right.
If you write for search engines, guess what...
your audience just left.
You are better off writing content that will please people, then let them help you build your traffic by sharing your work.
With time and the accumulation of your work, the search engines will take notice.
