The Argentina Copa America squad, schedule and a player to watch for the 2011 finals.

23-man Argentina Copa America Squad:

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar), Mariano Andujar (Catania), Juan Pablo Carrizo (River Plate)

Defenders: Gabriel Milito (Barcelona), Ezequiel Garay (Real Madrid), Nicolas Burdisso (Roma), Javier Zanetti (Inter), Nicolas Pareja and Marcos Rojo (Spartak Moscow), Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)

Midfielders: Javier Mascherano (Barcelona), Lucas Biglia (Anderlecht), Ever Banega (Valencia), Esteban Cambiasso (Inter), Javier Pastore (Palermo), Fernando Gago (Real Madrid)

Forwards: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid), Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli), Carlos Tevez (Manchester City), Diego Milito (Inter)

Background:

Argentina are desperate to end a trophy drought that extends back to the Copa America in 1993.
Coach Sergio Batista has chosen no fewer than seven forwards in his squad, and they each bring different qualities to the table.

Inter Milan pair Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso are back in the squad after being controversially omitted from last summer’s World Cup by Diego Maradona.

The defense is again likely to be the weak point, but Argentina should pile on the goals in the group stages.

Group Matches:

July 1, 2011 v Bolivia
July 7, 2011 v Colombia
July 11, 2011 v Costa Rica

Player to Watch: Lionel Messi

For all Messi’s brilliance in a Barcelona shirt, some Argentina fans remain disgruntled that he does not produce the same inspirational performances at international level.

Here is a chance for Messi to address those reservations and help Argentina win the Copa America for the first time since 1993.Copa America Section
