Having a different character than most other players ensures you'll always learn something new in this game, even when you think you know it all.
You can choose from a pool of 4 different callings: Warrior, Rogue, Mage and Cleric.
Each of these callings has nine different souls or classes, and you can pick three of those.
That alone gives a huge amount of possible combinations you can pick.
Another thing that differentiates your character from other players is your choice of professions.
There are nine different professions in Rift, which can be found under two main categories: gathering and crafting.
Gathering Professions Gathering professions are Foraging, Mining and Butchering.
They are used to collect a variety of materials you can use to fuel your crafting professions, or you can use the materials gathered and sell them to other players.
These materials can be found in every zone in the world of Telara and gathering the ore, herbs, wood, leather or hides isn't complicated.
Crafting Professions There are six different crafting professions you can pick.
All of them have their pros and cons and are suitable for different callings.
Crafting tradeskills are Apothecary, Armorsmithing, Artificing, Weaponsmithing, Outfitting and Runecrafting.
Only the last profession doesn't necessarily require a gathering one to be paired with it, as the materials are gained by destroying existing items you gain through quests, monster drops, crafting or buy from other players.
A single character can have at most three different professions at any given time.
You can learn and unlearn them as you please, but note that you will have to level up the skills again if you unlearn it, and that can be costly.
Make sure you familiarize yourself with the best professions for each calling and soul in Rift, thus making sure you will not take one that is not useful to you.
