    • The 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited came with a 5.9L V8 sporting a max horsepower of 245 and torque of 345 lb-ft. The lone transmission option was a four-speed automatic, standard wheels were 16 inches and the wheel base was 105.9 inches. Estimated city and highway mileage was 13 and 16 mpg, respectively.


    • 1998 was the last year Jeep used the body style known as the ZJ, first introduced in 1992. The manufacturer's grand finale, the 1998 Limited, was named Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine's four-wheel drive vehicle of the year.

    Post-1998 Influence

    • After introducing the Limited model in 1998, Jeep has continued the tradition through 2010 with luxurious Limited versions of the Grand Cherokee every year. Other SUV makers have also followed the lead of the 1998 Limited, the first SUV with a standard engine requiring premium fuel and offering a slew of features including a leather interior, premium Infinity sound system, alloy wheels and more.
