Delay your eating habits
Whenever you find the urge to consume some food, try and delay the consumption for as long as possible. In many cases you will find your urge will disappear, and if not consume a glass of water. Water suppresses the urge to consume food, and makes it easier in delaying your consumption of food.
This delay is very effective in combating impulsive eating. By just delaying your eating by 10-15 minutes reprograms your brain to not associate your eating habits daily.
How hungry are you really?
More often than not, you are not really hungry and just want toe at for the comfort it provides. Whether your eating habits is associated to real hunger or not, there is a simple technique to rate you overall hunger.
Whenever you feel that urge to eat, give yourself a rating between 1-10 with 1 being not hungry and 10 being starving. If you have given yourself leass than 4-5 the do not eat. Wait to you reach an 8 or 9 before you consume anything.
Occupy your mind
People that binge eat are usually obsessed with all types of food, spending a large part of their day thinking about food. To combat binge eating you will need to distract your mind and occupy it with something else.
To accomplish this there are many things you can do. You can go for a walk, do a crossword puzzle or even watch the television. Anything that distracts your mind from eating is good. If you do this every time you feel food is on your mind then eventually over time you will overcome your binge eating habits as long as you follow the other advice given. Stick at the plan, and you will succeed.
