- 1). Park the Explorer and turn off the engine. Pull the hood release lever located under the dashboard on the driver's side to pop the hood.
- 2). Lift the hood and remove the grounding cable from the negative battery terminal post. Loosen the bolt on the cable's clamp with a 10 mm wrench. Lift the cable's clamp from the battery lead and rest the cable away from the battery. Return to the inside of the Explorer.
- 3). Insert the two prongs of each of the Ford DIN removal keys into the stacked holes at either side of the radio's face. Push both tools into the holes until you hear and feel them snap into place. Place your finger in the curved end of each key and pull them outward from the center of the radio. Slide the radio simultaneously from the dock by pulling it toward you.
- 4). Unplug the antenna cable from the antenna outlet on the back panel of the radio unit. Pull the two plastic wire connectors from the rear panel of the stereo.
